Dr. Gavin Macauley
Gavin Macauley received both his integrated Master’s (2016) and his PhD (2020) from the University of Glasgow. His thesis focused on the application of Lorentz transmission electron microscopy and Monte Carlo techniques to probing phase transitions in artificial spin systems. This research was supervised by Professor Stephen McVitie and Professor Robert Stamps. As part of his PhD, he spent two periods working at the University of Manitoba. During his undergraduate studies, he undertook research internships in both condensed matter and in theoretical optics, where he studied generalised imaging systems. Gavin joined the Laboratory for Mesoscopic Systems as a postdoctoral researcher in September 2020.
Current Research Interests
His current research involves engineering unusual collective behavior in arrays of patterned nanomagnets.
