Workshop on Frontiers in Artificial Spin Ice 2025

The Laboratory for Mesoscopic Systems organised the workshop Frontiers in Artificial Spin Ice 2025, in Zurich, Switzerland. This workshop, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, brought together the key players in Artificial Spin Ice and related fields in order to explore recent advances, open questions, and new avenues.

The third Frontiers in Artificial Spin Ice (FASI) Workshop took place from 11th June to 13th June 2025 at the ETH Zurich, Switzerland. This workshop, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, brought together key players in Artificial Spin Ice and related fields in order to explore recent advances, open questions, and new avenues.

The event featured 18 Invited Talks and 37 Poster Contributions, with over 75 attendees. As for the previous workshops, the sessions were very diverse, encompassing phase transitions and correlations, neuromorphic computing, 3D structures, and dynamics. It is a tradition of these workshops to invite speakers from different, but complementary, areas to help spark new investigations. As such, as well as investigations into arrays of coupled nanomagnets, FASI 2025 featured talks on mechanical metamaterials, frustrated colloidal systems, and disorder in metal-organic frameworks to help realise new links to Artificial Spin Ice. The program of the workshop, including the titles of the invited talks and posters, can be found here

The poster sessions provided an opportunity for PhD students and postdocs to present their work, with the exchange of ideas between the participants and creation of new connections. We hope that all attendees had an enjoyable time, and look forward to seeing what new frontiers open up in the field!
